Well, intervals of course. But which method or machine is best? And how long should each interval be?


Both are very common questions.


And I truly believe there is a correct answer for both.


First, which method is best for interval training?


In the following list, I rank the methods and machines from most effective to least effective. Remember, in the end, all should be effective if you are doing the intervals correctly and eating for fat loss, but...you probably will still see better results when you use method #1.


And the winner is...sprinting. And that makes the #1 machine the treadmill.


More specifically, the absolute, #1, nothing-is-better-than-this-method-of-interval-training is, sprinting hills outside on grass. If you can do this safely, this is the best cardio workout for fat loss.


Of course, with great reward often comes increased risk. Sprinting is not for everyone. Sore knees, poor warmups, unconditioned muscles, and poor running form can quickly lead to immediate and overuse injuries. So be very conservative with this training method. Do not do hill sprinting if it is possibly unsafe for you.

Spinning somehow brings balance to unbalanced hormones... via your Endocrine System. This isn't a science, it's more like an art. That's kinda why you have to get slightly dizzy and not totally dizzy when spinning.


Basically, just about all overweight people in North America have unbalanced hormones because of pesticides, herbicides, and numerous other unnatural chemicals and metals in the air, water, and food. Spinning helps solve the "hormone problem".


3. Walk on an inclined surface


Most people walk on a flat surface... and notice how most people are overweight! Listen, walking on a flat surface is ok for slow, long term weight loss, but I'm sure you want some quicker results.


Therefore, go with walking on an inclined treadmill or up hills. Either way. A 10-15 degree incline is ideal. Just walk for 15-25 minutes... nothing more.


Don't just write this off either since it's walking. There's walking AND then there's INCLINE WALKING. Big difference! Try it once and see for yourself.


Do those 3 things and you can possibly lose 10 pounds in 10 days.

If you are serious about minimizing body fat with weight loss, and want to really crank up your metabolism and exercise, then you need to be sure to get your your target heart rate up at least 3 times a week, for a minimum of 20 minutes and up to 60 minutes at a time. Raising your target heart rate will ensure that you get the most out of your exercise (both in terms of muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness), while not pushing your body too hard.


Your target heart rate should be 50% to 85% of your maximum heart rate, and it is the safest range for exercise according to the American College of Sports Medicine. You can easily and quickly determine if your intensity is too high by administering the talk test; i.e., if you are unable to maintain a conversation with an exercise partner while exercising, then your intensity is too high.


A simple method for determining your target heart rate is to subtract your age from 220, and then multiply that number by .50 and .85. That should provide you with the range of your target heart rate.


For such a serious level of exercise, the American College of Sports Medicine recommends the following guidelines:


-- Perform your physical activity 3 to 5 times every week, for 20 to 60 minutes at a time.


-- Your activities should involve the large muscle groups (e.g., running, walking, swimming, cycling, etc.).


-- The level of your intensity, or target heart rate, during physical activity should be at least 55% to 65% of your maximum heart rate.

Alcohol and Weight Loss Are Not Best Buddies!


Unfortunately, alcohol and weight loss are not good buddies. They do not go well together. There are two main reasons why you should avoid alcohol if you want to lose weight. The first reason is that drinking large quantities of alcohol, particularly beer, will make your stomach distended. This will contribute to the size of your belly.

Let's take a typical example where it is very easy to take on excess calories by drinking alcohol. If you go out to a restaurant meal and have three courses, your calorie intake is likely to be anywhere between 1000 and 1500 calories. If you drink three glasses of wine on top of that, depending on the size of the glass, you could add a further 300 calories to your meal total.


Your body won't start to use any of the energy you have taken in as food before it has used the 300 alcohol calories which are in your system as acetate. Your body is likely to store much of the food calories, particularly if you're having this meal in the evening and you don't expend any further energy until the morning.


If you're serious about losing weight, then it's best to give alcohol a miss.
